What would your life be like without on call?
Trillium Equine was founded to be a part of the solution to the issues facing equine veterinarians today. While being an equine veterinarian is a very rewarding career choice, it has become increasingly difficult to attract new veterinarians and keep existing ones. This has been largely attributed to the long hours, including out-of-hours/emergency coverage, which often leads to a compromised work-life balance. Dr. Jenna Donaldson founded Trillium Equine to help alleviate the everyday stress of equine veterinarians so they can live their best life - both personally and professionally. Dr. Donaldson recalls one incident that was particularly impactful in her journey to start Trillium Equine:
"I was recently chatting with a client when she reflected back to a terrible emergency that occurred at her training facility a couple of years before - one that I was called to when I first joined the practice. It was a yearling that got loose and ran through a fence, sustaining an open, comminuted shoulder fracture. The client told me that she had called the practice owner, before I arrived at the farm, and asked if she had called out the right veterinarian. “Yes, absolutely!” was the owner's immediate reply. After she told me this, I reflected on how fortunate I was to work with such a supportive group of colleagues. Out of gratitude for the wonderful work opportunity I’ve been offered, I’m now striving to improve the lives of my fellow equine veterinarians."
